Relaxing muscles for relaxed mood | by suraj Mon Jan 28, 2008 10:49 pm NST |
Relaxing muscles is a good start to relax mind. There are many methods to relax the muscles. Progressive muscular relaxation is one of the popular relaxation techniques which involves the active contracting and relaxing of muscles. It depends on the assumption that when a muscle is tightened up for 4-6 seconds and then relaxed, the muscle returns to a more relaxed state.
Please follow under mentioned steps for Progressive Muscular Relaxation.
- First tighten up the muscles of feet for 4-6 seconds, to make them tense. Then relax (release) the tension of the muscles.
- Similarly tighten up the muscles of legs for 4-6 seconds and relax them.
- Step by step try same process of contraction and relaxation with the muscles of the buttocks, then stomach and with other muscles in sequence like- back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, jaw, face and eyes.
After this process you will find the difference. You will be relaxed not only physically but will enhance mental freshness. To add up the refreshment, you can lie down leaving your body freely, facing up and closing your eyes (for instance- sabashan of Yoga) for few minutes. Post a reply
